Care of Rubber Covered, Laser Engraved Sleeves/ Cylinders
The material used in making your rubber covered, laser engraved sleeve(s)/cylinder(s) has been chosen for your type of ink, substrate and operating conditions.
Proper care instructions follow:
Cylinder Wash Up:
Clean as soon as the sleeve(s)/cylinder(s) are removed from the press, before the ink dries and hardens. Using a soft bristled brush and your ink solvent, or an approved nonvolatile wash up solution for solvent-based inks, is recommended.
For water-based inks, use a mild soap and water. Isopropyl or industrial alcohol is suitable for most rubber types. Rinse with water and air dry only. (We do not recommend the use of an air hose due to contaminants that could be present in the air lines.)
Please contact your sales representative if you have questions regarding a particular solution.
Storage:
After cleaning and drying, wait at least four (4) hours (This is to ensure that all solvents or liquids have had a chance to evaporate before being sealed in, which could result in damage to the rubber) before putting protective wrap around the print surface. (Ozone protective wrap is recommended - Nitrile, Neoprene and Natural rubber covered sleeve(s)/cylinder(s) should be placed in Polyethylene storage bags).
The Luminite protective wrap that is around your sleeve(s)/cylinder(s) is an Ozone protective wrap.
The ideal storage area is where both the temperature (50 degrees is ideal) and the humidity are low and is away from any element that generates ozone (electric motors, lights, etc.).
